Fayetteville's street trees belong to the village
Fayetteville takes its trees seriously. It's been a Tree City USA since 2000, and a volunteer Tree Commission has cared for the village's street trees since 1991.
That means the trees in the village right-of-way, usually the ones along the street in front of your house, are the village's, not yours. Residents aren't allowed to remove, prune or top them, and a contractor can't do it for you either. If a street tree looks dead or dangerous, call the Village office at 315-637-9864.
Not sure which side of the line your tree is on? Ask the village first. It saves everyone a headache.
Ash trees near Fayetteville
Emerald ash borer was first found in Onondaga County in 2013, near Carrier Circle in DeWitt, just a few miles west of the village. Untreated ash trees in the area have been dying since. A dead ash gets brittle fast, so if you have one in the yard, it's worth getting it looked at before it becomes an emergency.
Brush and debris
The Village of Fayetteville runs its own brush pickup, separate from the Town's. Curbside programs aren't built for a whole tree, though, so your estimate should include chipping and haul-away. See the tree & brush rules guide.
