Minoa runs its own Public Works
Minoa is a village inside the Town of Manlius, so it handles its own brush pickup and roadside trees instead of the Town. Tree assessments are part of the Minoa DPW's regular work. If a tree along the street looks dead or dangerous, call the DPW at 315-656-7574 (Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.).
Minoa's brush pickup rules
- Brush piles can be no bigger than 5 feet wide and 8 feet long, stacked neatly along the road.
- Keep brush separate from trash, metal and concrete. Mixed piles aren't picked up until they're separated.
- Don't put it out until the day before your route day. Small piles go in a paper yard bag or a cardboard box.
- The village says it's illegal to bring trash or debris into the village for collection.
A whole tree produces far more than a 5-by-8 pile. When you get an estimate, make sure chipping and haul-away are included. Burning it isn't an option either: DEC rules only allow residential brush burning in towns with fewer than 20,000 people, and the Town of Manlius is well over that.
Ash trees in Minoa
Emerald ash borer was first found in Onondaga County in 2013, near Carrier Circle in DeWitt, a short drive west of Minoa. Untreated ash trees in the area have been dying ever since. Dead ash turns brittle fast, so if one is still standing in your yard, get it looked at before a storm takes it down for you.
